VISION

To develop MA-BUHAY! A New Musical over a three-year process, culminating in the professional premiere production, presented by Rainbow Stage.

STORY

MA-BUHAY! is set in present-day Canada, against the backdrop of the influential Filipino singing competition STAR ON THE RISE. We follow three young Filipinos – from three different economic backgrounds – who each have an intense need to win the competition. The musical explores themes of fame, religion, parental expectations and the influence of western culture as our three finalists prove to the judges, their families and themselves that they are worthy of this cultural title.

PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this musical is to welcome non-Filipinos to experience Filipino stories and culture and to welcome Filipinos to experience musical theatre and Rainbow Stage.
