Ma-Buhay! Filipinos Singing For Their Lives is a new all-Filipino musical by Joseph Sevillo that has been in development with Rainbow Stage for 5 years. With the script & score in their finalizing stages, we now set out to begin developing some of the visual aspects of the show. Starting in May, a new team was formed to begin workshopping these aspects and present the results at the 2023 Winnipeg Fringe Festival.

For this workshop and presentation we have three main objectives to focus the activity:

  1. Workshop and develop the choreography and provide professional development for local Fililpino Choreographers
  2. Explore and experiment with digital design and provide professional development for local Filipino design students.
  3. Share the story of the making of Ma-Buhay for the first time publicly, to help build its audience for the world premiere.
Be a part of the creation journey for the musical as we present the results of our workshop with
Ma-Buhay! The Road To Rainbow Stage
The results of our workshop are being presented at the 2023 Fringe Festival, in a 60-minute showcase that highlights 9 songs from the musical. Each song features new choreography by 4 choreographers, animations and videography by 10 students from Sisler’s Create Program, and costumes generously provided by Paquin Entertainment Group.

The presentation is a sneak peek of the musical as it informs the audience of the basic story and its main characters in a fun and engaging way. It also shares some of the stories behind the songs and the reasons that Joseph Sevillo has for wanting to create this impactful new musical.
