Nuns are funny, and book writers Cheri and Bill Steinkellner (they wrote for TV’s Cheers) have unshakable faith that the sight of a bobbing chorus line of normally pious Catholic sisters in sequinned penguin dresses belting out contagious disco-style and soul-flavoured numbers is inherently hysterical.

The surprise, it seems, is that underneath those black habits and wimples are people just like you and me.

Leading this conversion is Deloris Van Cartier (Saccha Dennis), who goes on the lam after she walks in on her mobster boyfriend Curtis (Michael-Lamont Lytle) executing a suspected stool pigeon. She goes to the cops and her former high-school crush, Officer Eddie (Aadin Church), protects her by stashing her where no one would think of looking: a convent.
