Is there parking at the theatre?

Parking is free in Kildonan Park. There is a large parking lot on the north side of the theatre. When you drive towards the theatre, you will pass the entrance to the theatre on the left and then come to the parking lot. There will be attendants who will guide you in and help you find a spot, as well as guide you out after the show. Please be aware that parking in the lot is stacked to allow more parking for our guests and therefore you may not be able to leave during the performance.

While Rainbow Stage has a parking lot, patrons wanting to avoid congestion while entering and exiting are recommended to use the limited street parking available on side streets and walk over to the theatre. Please be aware of the parking signage posted and remember that the roads within the park are patrolled by The City of Winnipeg Parking Authority.

For assistance locating us, please click here for our visual guide to “Driving to Rainbow Stage Inside Kildonan Park”.

Is there accessible parking at the theatre?

There are several accessible designated stalls in the parking lot at the theatre. If you have the tags or stickers to identify that you may park there, please let the parking attendants know when you arrive that you require an accessible spot and they will direct you to the appropriate space.

For assistance locating us, please click here for our visual guide to “Driving to Rainbow Stage Inside Kildonan Park”.

Where should a taxi or HandiTransit pick me up after the performance?

After the show, taxis may need to use the Scotia Avenue entrance to the park to pick up passengers near the south exit of the theatre. We recommend booking your taxi before you arrive at the theatre.

How long is the show?

Every production run time is different. Generally, Rainbow Stage productions are, on average, about 2.5 hours long, including a 20-minute intermission.

A precise show length is available in the week or two leading up to opening night. Please call the box office at 204-989-0888 for this information.

What time should I be at the theatre?

Patrons attending a matinee performance should expect heavy traffic in and around Kildonan Park. Kildonan Park is City of Winnipeg property and hosts a variety of fun, family activities that occur from day to day, especially on weekends. Please give yourself ample time to enter the park and find parking.

Please be aware of the parking signage posted and remember that the roads within the park are patrolled by The City of Winnipeg Parking Authority.

Patrons attending a performance are encouraged to arrive at the theatre approximately 70 minutes prior to the start of the performance. Doors to the theatre open one hour (60 minutes) before the performance time.

If you are picking up tickets at the box office, please allow extra time as there can be long lines at the box office windows.

If I am late, will I still see the show?

Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the Front of House Manager. Latecomers may be seated in the most easily accessed seats, often during applause, in order to avoid disturbing the actors and other audience members. During intermission, latecomers can move to their assigned seats.

What is intermission? Do Rainbow Stage shows have an intermission

An intermission is a short break near the middle of a production. Rainbow Stage productions have a 20-minute intermission. During intermission, patrons can use the washroom facilities, purchase concessions or merchandise, or enjoy Kildonan Park outside the theatre. Please keep your ticket with you in case you are asked to present it upon re-entry.

Are children welcome at Rainbow Stage? Are the shows appropriate for kids? Do they need tickets?

Every patron, regardless of age, requires a ticket for Rainbow Stage performances. For most shows, we have child pricing to make it more affordable to bring the whole family. Please contact the box office at 204-989-0888 if you have any questions about this policy.

We welcome guests of all ages to our performances as much of our programming is specifically for family audiences, although not every show is for every person. Please contact the box office at 204-989-0888 if you need guidance about the suitability of the show for your family.

For those unsure if their children can sit quietly for the duration of the show, please consider attending a Relaxed Performance. These shows allow audience members to enjoy a more relaxed audience environment where the rules of ‘theatre etiquette’ are treated more as suggestions. Unfortunately, Relaxed Performances are not always possible.

Will I be able to see from the back of the theatre?
There isn’t a “bad” seat at Rainbow Stage! The seating is arranged so that everyone can see the entire stage, no matter how far back they are sitting.

When buying tickets online, an image showing the view from those seats will be displayed before the final checkout to help with your seating decision.

If it rains, will the show be cancelled?
The entire seating area at Rainbow Stage is covered by our famous dome! While it is an open-air theatre, the roof protects audiences from the rain during the performance, meaning we do not cancel shows because of weather.
Are there washrooms on site?
Washroom facilities are located near the front entry doors. We recommend arriving early and using the washroom before the show as, at intermission, the lines can be quite long.

For the August production, additional portable facilities will be available on the South end of the building through the side doors. The doors and facilities are monitored by staff and volunteers.

Can I take pictures during the show?
Taking photos or making audio or video recordings during the performance is strictly prohibited. This is due to union regulations but also because it is disruptive to the performers and to other audience members. Professional photos can be found in our Rainbow Stage programs.

However, we encourage you to take photos and selfies in the lobby, during intermission, and before the curtain goes up! For online posts, you can tag us and share your visit at @RainbowStage and use the hashtag #rainbowstage and #wpgtheatre.

Can I bring my own food and drink?
We do not permit outside food or beverages inside the theatre. Water bottles are allowed.

Concession stands are open before the show and at intermission with candy, popcorn, ice cream and other snacks available. Drinks can also be purchased from the bar.

Are souvenirs available?

Yes, souvenirs specific to this season’s shows can be purchased at the merchandise station at the theatre when you visit. Souvenirs from previous productions or Rainbow Stage souvenirs are available on this page.

I forgot something at Rainbow Stage, how can I get it back

If you have left an item at the stage, please can email  foh@rainbowstage.ca with a description of your lost item. The Front of House Manager will be in contact with you and can schedule a time for you to retrieve the item from the park.

If you cannot make it to the stage throughout our season, lost and found items are relocated to our administration offices until the end of September. Any items unclaimed by their owners are then disposed of or donated to an appropriate organization.

What time does the box office open at the park?
During the run of the show, the box office at the park will be open two hours prior to each performance. Patrons may come to the box office at the park in the evening to purchase tickets for any performance. We suggest that patrons buying for performances other than the current night come to the box office after the show has started to avoid the crowds gathering for the evening’s performance.
