When Karyn was 6 years old, her grandmother decided her eldest granddaughter should be exposed to the arts, and so she bought tickets to take her and her mother to a performance of The King and I at Rainbow Stage. Karyn can still remember parts of that magical night. Going home on the bus, her mother said she was 5 to get her on for free. Karyn marched up to the bus driver and said, “I’m 6 years old and when I grow up I’m going to be in theatre!” Some of Karyn’s favorite experiences since then include stage managing: A Christmas Carol, Next to Normal, Fiddler on the Roof (RMTC); Chimerica (RMTC /CanStage); Small Things, Secret Mask, Unity 1918 (PTE); James and the Giant Peach, Frog and Toad (MTYP); Bump (The Ship’s Company Theatre); The 39 Steps (Harbourfront Theatre), and The Rick Hansen Story at the 2010 Winter Olympics. These many years later Karyn is excited about her first opportunity to work on a show in the theatre where her passion for the arts was first ignited.
